Artist, Jana Bareham (Domanová) specialises in traditional Japanese printmaking method Mokuhanga. The prints are made from hand carved woodblocks with water colours on washi paper. She uses traditional bamboo barren to hand press each print. This printing method has the least impact on the natural environment, which is very important to her.
Her inspiration often comes from her trips as a climber to mountainous regions:
‘I am in awe of natural landscapes, far reaching views framed by mountains. Trees also preoccupy my mind, giants in the natural world, their presence or absence is deeply felt. The world is so beautifully rich, and I want to capture that richness in a poetic way and hopefully benefit it in some meaningful sense.’

Little me with some work hanging in my studio. Spot the small climbing print between the two suminagashi (marbled) and one momigami (crinkled) died washi papers.
That orange apron has a lot of meaning for me. It used to belong to someone very special. The logo is by Union binding company, if you know you know…
